AFCAB is an independent body settled in 1990 to deliver certificates of conformity to companies that manufacture or fix on site concrete reinforcing steels or their accessories.

Why choose products that are certified by AFCAB

Choose cut, bent or welded steels certified by AFCAB, choose a fixing company certified by AFCAB, provides to the contractor and to the user the guarantee that the reinforcing steel will not break the quality of the building, from the design to the construction. The certification rules were established including all the relevant parties. They ensure that the level of quality of the certified products meets the needs of all the members involved in the construction.

AFCAB: a competent body

The certification rules were written by « Comités particuliers » where all the competent experts of the products were present (laboratories and controllers, users, producers). The audits and the tests specified in the certification rules are performed by the network of “Laboratoires des Ponts et Chaussées” and other competent bodies, that are experimented in the field of reinforcing steels.

AFCAB: a transparent body

The certification rules are available at "Quality Documents" or on simple request to the secretariat of AFCAB. They include no discriminatory clause. The lists of the certified products are available at "Certificats" or on simple request to the secretariat of AFCAB.

AFCAB: an accredited body

AFCAB put in place an organisation that fulfils the requirements of the NF EN 45011 standard, concerning the product certification bodies, an it got a COFRAC - Produits industriels accreditation for this activity under the n° 5-0007. This accreditation attests the independence, the competence and the impartiality of AFCAB.

The independence is achieved by the presence of all the experts of the market. Are present in AFCAB:

• the producers of concrete reinforcing steels in bars, in coils, in welded fabrics, cutters and benders, the fixing companies,
• the users: final users (Ministery of Equipment, EDF, SNCF) and contractors (EGF-BTP),
• the laboratories (Réseau des LPC), the controllers (COPREC), CSTB and the concrete industry.

The contractors are able to control the quality of the whole reinforcing process thanks to the certifications delivered by AFCAB

mark : reinforcing steels (bars, coils, welded fabrics),
cut bent welded steels. mark : continuity systems, couplers and fixing of reinforcing steels.

This set of certifications enables to guarantee that all the reinforcing in place in the concrete (and not only the steels at the exit of the mill) fulfils the requirements taken into account fort the calculation and design of reinforced concrete.
